On October 27, 2018 Nansen Dialogue Centre Skopje organized the International Conference on the topic “The Role and Importance of Interculturalism in Education”. The Conference was consisted of lectures from distinguished international experts who are part of the international team of trainers within the Training Centre. After the official opening of the conference by Ms. Biljana Krsteska Papic, Ms. Paula Mcllwaine from the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education presented the Program for anti-bias approach in integrated schools, while Mr. Steinar Bryn from the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, Norway presented the perceptions for intercultural education. The conference was integral part of the basic level training for intercultural and integrated education, organized and realized within the NDC Skopje Training Centre.
By utilizing the extensive experience and knowledge of the international experts from Northern Ireland and Norway, the conference had a significant role in the process of sensitizing of various educational profiles for the necessity and benefits of intercultural education as a global trend, tendency and necessity.
This event represented a great platform for public promotion of the Manual for Intercultural Education recently developed by Nansen Dialogue Centre Skopje. Ms. Sonaj Bilal NDC Skopje Coordinator for education, training and development presented the purpose of the manual.
The necessity and importance of intercultural education was also emphasized by Mr. Sasho Stojkovski, Executive director of NDC Skopje, Mr. Safet Neziri, State Advisor at the Ministry of Education and Science and Ms. Irena Spirkovska, from OSCE Mission to Kosovo. During the conference, NDC Skopje awarded Certificate of appreciation to Mr. Safet Neziri in appreciation of outstanding contribution and in recognition of the continuous excellence in support of the Nansen model for intercultural education.
At the concluding part of the conference, nearly 100 teachers from Macedonia and Kosovo were awarded certificates for successful completion of the Basic level training program for intercultural education.
