Useful and practical – these words can describe the two tools that facilitate everyday life in our multilingual society – the two-way Dictionary and Phrase Book: Macedonian-Albanian and Albanian-Macedonian.

The Dictionary and the Phrase Book were prepared by an expert team on the initiative and with support of the Nansen Dialogue Centre Skopje (NDC), in cooperation with the Office of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.

The Dictionary allows Macedonian and Albanian students to master the basic Albanian, i.e. the basic Macedonian language easily.

It contains a total of 9,000 words or 4,500 in both languages. The words are taken from the textbooks used from the fourth to the ninth grade. Thus, Macedonian and Albanian children at this age find it easier to understand each other, especially when talking about school topics.

This source of language skills reduces the difference in students’ prior proficiency in both languages, because Albanian students learn compulsory Macedonian language starting from the fourth grade, and Macedonian students attend Albanian language course as an elective.

The Dictionary is easy to use, since it is available in both digital and printed versions.

After the success of the published Dictionary, the Nansen Dialogue Centre prepares a two-way Phrase Book: Macedonian-Albanian and Albanian-Macedonian.

The Phrase Book is also available in digital and printed versions. It is a simple tool for easy and fast mastering of basic expressions when speaking both languages. This facilitates the every-day modern life of this region.

The Phrase Book contains phrases, words, proverbs and 45 dialogues that will help you to cope with the Albanian or Macedonian language in everyday situations at school, in a taxi, at the airport, in the post office, in a restaurant, etc.

The Dictionary and the Phrase Book are available for free download as mobile or computer application.

They arouse interest of young people in studying the similarities between the two languages, as a value of our society.

Although intended for young people in primary and secondary education, the Dictionary and the Phrase Book can be very useful for any generation.
